ECD Leak (Wipe) Test Sampling Instructions
What Is Inside?
- Four wipes
- Four sampling bags
- Leak test certificate
- Chain of Custody
Note: There is one extra bag and wipe included.
Important: Do not peel off circle (sticker). Use card to hold and collect sample. See example to the right.
Sampling Instructions
- Turn off all detector gas flows.
- Turn off the host Gas Chromatography (GC) and allow the Electron Capture Detector (ECD) to cool to near ambient temperature.
- Fill out one Leak Detector Certificate per GC-ECD instrument.
Correct way to sample
Incorrect way to sample
- Lay out three of the four bags and label them as follows:
- Bag 1: Sample 1 – Detector Inlet
- Bag 2: Sample 2 – Detector Housing (both inside entrance and threaded exterior)
- Bag 3: Sample 3 – Detector Exit (column adapter)
- Start with Sample 1, wipe the corresponding part of the GC-ECD instrument, and then place the sample into Bag 1.
- Go to Sample 2, wipe the corresponding part of the GC-ECD instrument, and then place the sample into Bag 2.
- Go to Sample 3, wipe the corresponding part of the GC-ECD instrument, and then place the sample into Bag 3.
- Complete the Chain of Custody for submittal to the laboratory.
- Gather all three bags, place them in FedEx® or UPS® envelope or box for shipment back to the laboratory.
